Cephalid Biomancer & Deepspawn Reaver

Cross posting for the win!
Fresh from the painting table these are two really fun and colorful minis  minis: a Frankenstein style human-robot-fish monster and its demented creator, a horrific mutated being that is more tentacle than humanoid. Just in time for Halloween ;). The Biomancer is a standout sculpt in a line of wonderful Olley pieces for the range. I had a lot of fun experimenting with color combinations I had never even considered before.
please take a look at Antimatter Games' Deepwars and Shadowsea lines for more characterful and unique miniatures from some legendary sculptors.

Ridgeback Lizardmen

From the archive!
These are my favorite lizardmen miniatures on the market. They are  imposing models (40mm base) from the Antimatter Games Dragonblood line. AMG was fortunate enough to re-acquire the line from Cavalcade Wargames before they close down. I am missing a few of the lizardmen so I am really happy that I can now pick them up from the Shadowsea Kickstarter for a bargain.

I wanted something different stylistically for these unique lizardmen so I intentionally avoided classic greens and instead went with colors consistent with some lesser known iguana species. Sometimes I love the choice to paint them in warm colors, some times I don't. right now I am happy with it, which is a good thing because I have another set of warriors and the very impressive lord on my paint table (rescued from the shelf of shame). expect to see them soon, as well as a lot more of my Shadowsea/Deepwars stuff, both new and old.

Vambrace, Guardian Construct

As I mentioned previously I will be consolidating all of my various works here. this posting is part of that effort. this model was completed in the summer of 2011.
I bought this mini on a whim and it is now a favorite in my collection. It was painted by (roughly) following the steps in automaton's step-by-step metallics tutorial. I was pleased with the effect and colored glazes are now part of my normal approach to painting metallics.  In a way this piece signifies a major benchmark in my development as a painter. Not only because I pushed my metallics to a more advanced level, but because I really embraced a tutorial for the first time and learned a great deal from it.
The base was made with Sculpey and greenstuff and portrays a dilapidated ancient computer core. At the time I didn't really like it because it was clearly a sci-fi element, but the idea of blending futuristic and fantasy themes has since grown on me.  I hope to revisit the concept in future projects.

Lemures

I have been chipping away at some bigger projects: sculpting a few commissions and a few personal projects, and painting stuff for Deepwars. to break up these intense tasks I have been painting some of the smaller demons and devils from the CSM kickstarter. I find that these models are fast and easy to paint. because they are mostly nude there aren't fiddly details and the smooth contours of the sculpts help immensely to create good color transitions. below are my lemures, fun little sculpts that look very tortured and evil, just in time for Halloween. I really wanted to make them look like the  human fat and tissue I would sometimes see in the lab. The end result was convincing despite some of the more subtle detailing in the blobby parts blending in more than in would've liked.

over the next few days I will photograph the other little guys I have finished
